This week’s Korean box office is still dominated by The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure. With sales of 62,147 tickets this week, The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure was in first place for two weeks.

Not only The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure, the film Kingmaker has also managed to maintain its position since last week. Kingmaker took second place by selling 41,100 tickets this week. Based on Korean Film Box office data, here are 5 Korean box offices this week.

1. The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure

The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure tells the story of a group of people who gather on a ship to find the last treasure of the Goryeo royal family. The family disappeared without a trace after the kingdom was replaced by Joseon.

The sequel to The Pirates stayed in first place this week with sales of 62,147 tickets on 1,584 screens. The ticket sales were equivalent to US$507 thousand or around Rp. 7.3 billion (US$1 = Rp. 14,411).

Since airing January 26, 2022, this film has collected US $ 8.7 million or around Rp. 125 billion from sales of 1,086,271 tickets.

2. Kingmaker

Kingmaker tells of Seo Chang-dae’s dream of changing the world so that he takes part in Kim Woon-bun’s political campaign. In order to fight against the ruling party, Chang-dae adopted an aggressive propaganda campaign and made Kim the strongest candidate in the opposition party.


This week, Kingmaker earned US$336.5 thousand or around Rp5 billion from selling 41,100 tickets on 1,144 screens.
