Following Amanda Seyfried’s recent news on The Crowded Room project, The Hollywood Reporter is now back with news that Emmy Rossum has been chosen to join as one of the main cast members in the Apple TV+ drama anthology. Rossum will play the role of Candy, the mother of Danny Sullivan’s character played by Tom Holland.
The 35-year-old actress is best known for her brilliant performance as Fiona Gallagher in nine seasons of the Showtime series Shameless. She will next be seen in the upcoming limited series Angelyne from Peacock.

The Crowded Room is an anthology series that dives into the true stories of people who have “struggled and learned to successfully live with mental illness.” Described as a captivating thriller, the first season was inspired by the famous biography “The Minds of Billy Milligan” by writer Daniel Keyes.
Tom Holland is set to play Danny Sullivan or Billy Milligan, the first person ever to be acquitted of the crime of multiple personality disorder (now known as dissociative identity disorder). Milligan was acquitted of the rape and robbery of three women on the Ohio State University campus after psychologist Dorothy Turner diagnosed him with Disassociative Identity Disorder.

After being diagnosed with 24 personalities, he was released from the Ohio mental health system in 1991 before dying of cancer in 2014.
Along with this news, it was also revealed that Kornél Mundruczó, best known for directing the Oscar-nominated film Pieces of a Woman, will be directing all episodes of the first season (10 episodes) as well as serving as executive producer.

The series itself is pegged as a “seasonal anthology” by Apple and “will explore the inspirational stories of those who have struggled with, and learned to successfully live with, mental illness.”

The Crowded Room was created, written, and produced by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman. Executive producers for the series are Tom Holland, Alexandra Milchan and Arnon Milchan of New Regency, Yariv Milchan, and Michael Schaefer. This project is a co-production between Apple Studios and New Regency.
