Five Course Meal, Short Film, Review and Interview

Just about everyone has heard about or seen an advertisement about participating in a study to earn some extra money. Many people get involved. Mark and Jenny are a couple that decided to volunteer.

Five Course Meal from director James Cadden was screened at the 2019 FilmQuest Miután elbuktunk (2021) teljes film ingyenes magyarul (website). The short film was nominated for Best Comedy and Best Makeup for shorts.

The synopsis for the film provides a tempting morsel that is being served without giving away the whole course. The director, James Cadden, was also kind enough to answer a few questions about the movie 007 – Nincs idő meghalni teljes film and himself. I don’t dare add more to what they say.

I recommend Five Course Meal to those who like just what you’re thinking.

Mark and Jenny are a couple that volunteers to be locked in a room together for one month as part of a paid experiment. They’re provided meals through a dispenser, which they ravenously devour because they’ve been gripped by an insatiable hunger. Eventually the food stops coming, and with only each other left in the room, what will they do? They’re still hungry.

What was the inspiration for Five Course Meal?

Growing up, I was a big fan of pulpy, visceral genre films because they fueled my imagination by showing me fantastical things and left me feeling that I’d been on a long, hard journey. I like films that, when they finish, I don’t forget about them and I feel like I was along for the ride, no matter how much of an ordeal it was. So, I knew, going into this project, I wanted audiences to feel the same way. I wanted Five Course Meal to feel like something that, had I not made it, I would be watching it.

What project(s) do you have coming up you’re excited about?

I am developing a science fiction themed short film with horror elements. I would want to work again with the same people who helped me bring Five Course Meal to life. If we can get production funding secured, the plan would be to have it ready for sending out to film festivals in early 2021.

What was your early inspiration for pursuing a career in film?

When I was in grade 2, my parents bought me the computer game “Microsoft 3D Movie Maker”. It was a sandbox type game that was released in 1995. You could make little films by placing 3D characters and props into pre-rendered environments, as well as adding sound effects and music. Having this freedom at the tender age of 7 to make movies really sparked my imagination. Years later in high school, there was a series of classes I took that had a video creation component which really inspired me, and from there I was hooked.

What would be your dream project?

Making a feature length genre film.

What are some of your favorite pastimes when not working on a movie?

Nature photography, swimming, hiking and playing games online with my friends.

What is one of your favorite movies and why?

Starship Troopers—it’s a great mix of action, humor and a phenomenal score (particularly Klendathu Drop) that elevates it into a mesmerizing sci-fi spectacle.

New Film Class in 2013 at Facets

Dana Andrews (1909-1992) was one of Hollywood’s most popular movie  stars during its golden age. He worked with many legendary, accomplished directors including John Ford, Lewis Milestone, Otto Preminger, Fritz Lang, and William Wyler to name just a few. Andrews’s career is a true American rags-to-riches story as he was the third of 13 children born to a Baptist minister and his wife, yet rose to become a movie star. His minimalist acting style personified ‘the male’ mask of the 1940s, in such classic films as Laura, Fallen Angel, and Where the Sidewalk Ends, in which he played the ‘masculine ideal of sang froid impassivity. These singular films, all directed by Preminger, recognized this distinguishing characteristic of Andrews’s acting ability and perhaps exploited it best. Although Andrews fulfilled his dreams, he did not live the typical celebrity lifestyle. A family man at heart, Andrews avoided the limelight that many of his contemporaries fully embraced. A complicated man, he had a problem with alcohol for most of his adult life, but despite his personal conflicts, he was admired and well-liked by his colleagues, leaving us with an extraordinary body of work that will be studied for generations to come.
