How Powerful Is Druigs Mind Control Compared To Loki & Sylvie?

In Eternals, Druigs incredibly powerful mind control powers are established. But how do his abilities compare to those of Loki and Sylvie?

This years Eternals introduced Druig and his incredibly powerful mind control — but how does it compare to the mind control powers the MCU has already established for Loki and Sylvie? Directed by Chloe Zhao, Eternals depicts the group of Eternals sent to Earth by the Celestial Arishem to protect humanity from the Deviants. Each of the Eternals possesses a unique set of powers, along with a nearly indestructible physiology.

Druig (Barry Keoghan) arrives on Earth with the other Eternals around 5000 BC. There, they work together to defeat the Deviants but are instructed not to interfere in human affairs. However, Druig becomes frustrated that they had to stand by while humans destroy one another, particularly when he could so easily stop them with his mind control abilities. He decides to break off from the other Eternals, including his romantic interest Makkari, and live in isolation with a society of mind-controlled humans for centuries.

Eternals demonstrates that Druigs version of mind control is vastly superior to the mind control abilities of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) or Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). Loki, under the influence of the Mind Stone, displays mind control powers in The Avengers, but those abilities stem from the Mind Stone itself rather than his own magic. Beyond that, the only instance of Loki exhibiting power over anothers mental faculties is in Thor: Ragnarok, when he casts a spell to muddle Odins lucidity and keep him at Shady Acres Care Home on Earth. However, this instance is likely connected to his magical hold over others perceptions of reality rather than their willpower. Outside of the Mind Stone, Loki does not seem to have any mind control abilities at all, giving Druig the clear advantage in that comparison.

However, Sylvie, a variant of Loki, explicitly specializes in enchantment magic that gives her mind control abilities — with clear limitations. In Loki, she demonstrates that she can gain total control over a persons willpower, but only if they arent too strong-willed to resist her. She must touch someone to gain control over them or touch them by proxy as she controls someone else; also, it seems that she can only maintain control over one entity at a time. Her mind control powers are much more robust and powerful than Lokis (even with the help of the Mind Stone), but still no match for Druigs.

Here are some recommended movies to watch this week:

Druig displays nearly unlimited control over humans in Eternals. Despite being directed by Celestials not to interfere with human affairs, Druig instantaneously stops the fighting during the Spanish invasion of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. He does this without breaking a sweat and seems to imply he could easily stop all human violence this way. When he retreats to a self-imposed exile in the Amazon, he constantly maintains control over an entire village of humans; theoretically, he has held control over them 24/7 for centuries. In addition, his powers are the key to stopping the Emergence of the Celestial Tiamut from the Earth. With the combined power of the other Eternals through the Uni-Mind, Druig is able to exert control over Tiamut, a feat that Sylvie or Loki could only dream of.

Druig demonstrates the sheer scale of his powers in Eternals, dwarfing the mind control abilities that have been shown thus far from Loki and Sylvie. While it remains to be seen whether Druig would cross paths with Loki and Sylvie, it seems likely that if they do encounter one another, there could be a battle of willpower. For now, though, it is certain that Eternals set Druig up as an absolute powerhouse who will influence the MCU for years to come.
