Everything You Need to Know About the 3rd ‘After’ Movie

It’s happening — After We Fell is almost here. The movie’s social media accounts celebrated the first movie’s anniversary on April 12, 2021, by releasing the steamy poster for the next movie.

Production has officially finished on the third After film, based on the book series by Anna Todd. The movie’s stars, Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin — who play Tessa Young and Hardin Scott, respectively — announced they started filming the Harry Styles-inspired flick on September 8, 2020, but now, so much more information about the highly-anticipated film has been released!

“The story pulls you in because it’s just a rollercoaster and you don’t know what’s going to happen next. And then when you’re reading a book or watching a film, you go, ‘Oh, okay, everything’s fine now.’ And [then] there’s something else happens. So I think I would probably attribute it could to just the story and the ebbs and flows of it,” Josephine told TooFab about the series as a whole in March 2021. “I also think sometimes there’s just something about things which people love and you don’t know what that X-factor is.”

In February 2021, the movie’s first teaser was released, and a month later, fans got a first look at a steamy #Hessa kiss thanks to the film’s official Instagram account. It wasn’t until July 2021 where fans got a taste of the new movie with the full trailer.

Some brand-new cast members have joined the new film, according to a post on the film’s official Instagram page from October 7, 2020. The statement explained that because of COVID-19, they decided to film in Eastern Europe where the number of cases “are far lower than where we shot movies 1 & 2 and this safeguards our cast.”

“We are also shooting the films back to back, which means some of the original cast were not available to return for various reasons,” the announcement read. When talking about the franchise coming to an end, Josephine also told TooFab that it was “bittersweet.”

The first After film hit theaters in April 2019 and quickly became a fan-favorite after viewers were introduced to Tessa and Hardin’s tumultuous love story. Now, fans around the world are waiting for the sequel After We Collided to officially hit theaters on October 23, 2020. But, while they wait, the cast teased the continuation of Hardin and Tessa’s relationship as they get to work on the third film. From the sound of it, After We Fell is going to tug on the heartstrings, and it just might be the end of the couple’s on-again, off-again relationship.

The Release Date
The third movie will hit theaters around the world throughout September and October 2021! Check out the film’s official announcement regarding release dates.

“I’m so excited you finally have release dates for After We Fell and that we’re all gonna get to see it pretty soon,” the movie’s director, Castille Landon, told fans in a May 2021 Instagram video. “We’re doing finishing touches right now and it looks SO good. It’s been really great seeing everybody’s responses to the teaser, especially to the hot tub scene and the gym scene, and that it’s really true to the books.”

The Returning Cast
Thankfully, Hero and Josephine will both be reprising their roles as Tessa and Hardin for the film. Dylan Sprouse will also appear as F–king Trevor with Rob Estes as Ken Scott and Louise Lombard as Trish Daniels.

The Not Returning Cast
Unfortunately, Shane Paul McGhie — who played Landon Gibson — will not be returning to his role in the film series.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing I will not be filming in Bulgaria,” the actor wrote on Instagram in October 2020. “We could not come to an agreement and I had to make a really tough call. I had to stand up for me, the way that Landon would. I am so grateful to you all for welcoming me into the After family and for supporting me along this incredible journey.”

He continued, “I have felt your love from around the world and that has been the biggest blessing and honor. I have seen how, for a lot of you, After has changed your lives and been a light during dark times.”

The After series’ author, Anna, took to the comments section and reacted to Shane’s news.

“I feel like I have so much to say, but I’ve said it to you. You’re the best honestly,” she wrote. “You’ll always be LG to me.”

Candice King — who fans know from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals — won’t be returning as Kim Vance, either. Charlie Weber‘s role as Christian Vance and Selma Blair‘s role as Carol have also been replaced.
