This is not the first, second or third time the release date of MORBIUS has had to be delayed. The film was supposed to be released on July 10, 2020, but COVID-19 forced MORBIUS to be pushed back several times starting from July 31, 2020, March 19, 2021, October 8, 2021, and finally moving to January 21, 2022, before finally being moved to April 1.
Although there is no reason why this film was postponed. However, Omicron’s potential to reduce the number of viewers could be one of the reasons. On this new release date, MORBIUS will face off against EASTER SUNDAY, a comedy film starring Jimmy O. Yang and Tiffany Haddish, and the thriller THE CONTRACTOR starring Chris Pine.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is currently the studio that has benefited the most from the return to theaters. With two big films like SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE.
Besides MORBIUS, Sony also has a video game adaptation film, UNCHARTED, starring Tom Holland. Fortunately, the film, which is scheduled for release in February, is still on schedule.
