This was acknowledged by Awkwafina at the Shang-Chi global press conference which took place a few days ago. “When I fell, I seemed to sprain my neck a bit,” Awkwafina said.

Luckily, the owner of the real name Nora Lum was not seriously injured. From the start, Awkwafina was not burdened with physical preparation to undergo filming like Simu Liu. He himself was surprised when he had to be involved in several scenes that drained his energy and physicality.

“That’s what my physical strength is like. Well, I wasn’t really prepared for it,” said Awkwafina.

In order to fulfill the quality of acting in this film, Awkwafina also learned archery and drifting. He even had time to go to the race track to learn how to speed on the streets.

Simu Liu was not chosen to be Shang-Chi just because he frequently tweets on Marvel’s Twitter account. Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, explained that it was Simu Liu’s acting qualities that led him to get the role.

“It’s all because of your acting skills, your consistent professionalism, and the number of meetings and readings you attended that led to you getting the role,” said Kevin Feige.

Filming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

A film based on Shang-Chi entered development in 2001, but work did not begin in earnest until December 2018 when Callaham was hired. Cretton joined in March 2019, with the project fast-tracked as Marvel’s first film with an Asian lead. The film’s title and primary cast were announced that July, revealing the film’s connection to the Mandarin (Leung) and his Ten Rings organization previously appeared throughout the MCU. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first Marvel Studios film with an Asian director and a predominantly Asian cast.

Filming began in February 2020 but was put on hold in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in August before completing in October, with additional shooting occurring in Sydney and San Francisco.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in Los Angeles on August 16, 2021, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 3, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The film received positive reviews from critics, praising the film’s choreography, its exploration and representation of Asian culture, and Leung’s performance.
