The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is the first film in the The Lord of the Rings trilogy which was released in 2001. This first saga focuses on the journey of a Hobbit to destroy a ring that has a very strong influence.
The film is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth. At that time, Bilbo Baggins of The Shire wandered into Mount Misty and met the 500 year old Gollum. Bilbo then steals a ring that apparently has extraordinary powers.
The ring is known to be made by Sauron, the Dark Lord of Mordor who is known as the most cruel figure. Sauron seeks the ring because it has a part of his soul so that he can return to strength and rule Middle-earth.

When Bilbo had been living in the Shire for a long time, he wanted to leave that place to make his wish come true. But before leaving, he bequeathed the ring known as the One Ring to Frodo Baggins.
Gandalf, who was a friend of Frodo, suggested that the ring be destroyed on Mount Doom in Mordor so that Sauron’s intention to dominate Middle-earth was not achieved.
In order to save Middle-earth, Frodo is willing to make a long journey to Mount Doom with his friends, Samwise, Merry, and Pippin. Along with Frodo’s journey, he meets various people who help him to try to prevent his efforts to eliminate the ring.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is directed by Peter Jackson based on the novel The Fellowship of the Ring. It is the first book in the story of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien.
This film uses many players, namely Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Sean Bean, Ian Holm, and Andy Serkis.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was first released on December 10, 2001 at Odeon Leicester Square, London, and circulated simultaneously on December 19, 2001.
The Lord of the Rings first received much praise and box office success. The film with a budget of US $ 93 million managed to collect a box office of up to US $ 897.7 million.
The film also received many awards and is considered one of the greatest and most influential films in history.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring received 13 nominations for the 74th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor.
However, this film ‘only’ won four Oscars, namely Best Cinematography, Best Makeup, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects. In 2021, or 20 years after the film’s release, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was selected for the National Film Registry of the US Library of Congress for its “significant cultural, historical, and aesthetic impact.”
