Top Gun Movie, Maverick Will Premiere At This Year’s Cannes Film Festival

Top Gun sequel Maverick is reportedly set to premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which marks the 75th anniversary of the prestigious film festival. Variety reported on Monday (14/3), Top Gun Maverick will be released on 27 May 2022, while the Cannes Film Festival will take place on 17-28 May 2022.

Even so, the official schedule for the film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival will only be released in the third week of April. This screening is a relief news for fans of the film after the release of Top Gun Maverick was postponed several times due to the pandemic. Although it will be released at the Cannes Film Festival, Top Gun Maverick will not be part of the festival competition event.

According to Variety, Cannes director Thierry Fremaux had previously sought to secure the film for an out-of-competition screening slot before Covid-19 policies changed things again.
The film Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski and is predicted to be a nostalgic journey for lovers of Cruise action as a fighter pilot.

In one of the trailers, Pete Mitchell (Cruise) is seen being invited to work and train a group of new Top Gun graduates. One of the people Mitchell trained was Bradley Bradshaw or commonly called Rooster. He is the son of Mitchell’s best friend, Nick Bradshaw aka Goose.

Although not as young as he used to be, Mitchell doesn’t seem to have lost his skills. In some scenes, the action is seen from behind the cockpit with stunning flight techniques.

In addition to Cruise, the film also features Miles Teller as Bradley, as well as Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, and Ed Harris. Val Kilmer is also expected to reprise his role as Lieutenant Tom Kazansky aka Iceman, as in the first film.

Tom Cruise, Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7 Showtimes Postponed Due to the Pandemic

The showtimes of two films starring Tom Cruise, Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7 have been postponed again due to the spread of the Delta variant of the corona virus.
A spokeswoman for studio ViacomCBS Inc said that this delay was also triggered by the spike in Covid-19 cases in the United States over the past few years.

Previously, the sequel to Top Gun, which has been delayed several times, was set to premiere in theaters on November 19. But now, Paramount Pictures has again postponed the film by taking the set schedule for Mission: Impossible 7, which is May 2022.

Meanwhile, the broadcast schedule for Mission: Impossible 7 has been shifted to September 2022.

As reported by Reuters, US cinema chains, including AMC Entertainment, Cineworld Plc and Cinemark Holdings, are relying on blockbusters like “Top Gun” to help draw audiences back into theaters.

Unfortunately, this hope had to be put on hold because of the Delta variant of the corona virus that was attacking the US. Covid-19 cases in the US reached 156,000 people as of Tuesday (31/8) yesterday, based on data from Worldometers.
