Fans of the Bourne movie franchise got a nice surprise this week, as three of the films in the popular spy series made their way to a streaming service. When the calendar flipped to November, many of the major streaming services added new movies to their rosters. Three entries in the Bourne saga all made their way to HBO Max, making the majority of the franchise available in the same place.
The first two entries in the Bourne series — 2002’s The Bourne Identity and 2004’s The Bourne Supremacy — were added to HBO Max on Monday. They were joined by the 2012 film The Bourne Legacy, which took the story away from Jason Bourne and focused on a new lead character. The Bourne Ultimatum (third in the original trilogy) and 2016’s Jason Bourne aren’t on the service with their franchise counterparts.
Matt Damon starred in four of the five Bourne films as the titular Jason Bourne, a highly trained agent who has his memory wiped and is left for dead, as a scapegoat for a secret government project. The Bourne Legacy brings in Jeremy Renner as its star, shifting the focus to a new agent before returning to Bourne four years later.
These Bourne films were just a couple of the many movies that were added to HBO Max’s lineup on November 1st. You can check out the full list of new arrivals below.

Jingle All The Way Turbo Man Funko Action Figure Is In Stock
Earlier this year Funko released a reproduction of the 1996 Tiger Electronics Turbo Man action figure that was based on the toy at the center of the Arnold Schwarzenegger Christmas classic Jingle All The Way. Much like Arnold and Sinbad discovered in the film, getting your hands on this Turbo Man figure has proven difficult. However, this Walmart exclusive was back in stock at the time of writing, and can be ordered here for $34.88 while it lasts.
The 13.5-inch Turbo Man action figure is poseable and features electronic lights and sounds along with three accessories. It’s basically the exact same toy that Tiger released all those years ago. However, if you want an original, it will cost you around $300 on eBay.
Speaking of Jingle All the Way, the film was just added to the Disney+ lineup for your holiday streaming pleasure. As noted, the movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad as parents on the hunt for the hottest toy of the year – Turbo Man. The movie was meant to act as a criticism of the commercialization of Christmas, but, as you can see from this post, that message has clearly backfired.
Jingle All the Way earned around $130 million at the box office, making it a modest success on a $75 million budget. However with Black Friday becoming a multi-month event, and the toy business evolving to target adults, it’s no surprise that the film has endured as a cult classic. The official synopsis for the film reads:
“After promising his young son that Santa will get him the number one item on the boy’s wish list, a well-meaning workaholic father’s Christmas Eve turns into a hilariously nightmarish, madcap scramble across the city to find the much sought-after and therefore virtually impossible-to-find toy. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad and Jake Lloyd.”
Thor Star Anthony Hopkins Was Ready to Quit Acting Before Being Cast as Odin
Marvel Studios has put out a massive (and massively entertaining) new book called The Sory of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this first “fully authorized, all-access history of Marvel Studios’ creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” we get testimonials from cast and crew from various MCU projects – including Keneth Branaugh’s pivotal first installment of the Thor film series. Well, one section looking at the making of Thor reveals the somewhat startling fact that Sir Anthony Hopkins was apparently about to quit acting until he was cast as Odin in Branaugh’s Thor movie!
Here’s the excerpt from The Sory of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which shines a light on Anthony Hopkins’ feelings about the industry when he was cast in Thor (2011):
“Although Hopkins agreed to be in the film after reading the script, at that point in his career, the Academy Award-winning actor was seriously considering retirement. Hopkins cites Branaugh as the reason he didn’t leave the business. ‘Ken Branaugh gave me back the chops to work,’ the actor shares. ‘I was gonna give it up, really. But, you see, he won’t let you do that. Working with Ken was quite an injection of new energy into my life. He seems to have that same infectious quality on everybody in the crew. His enthusiasm, his attitude, is so positive, that he brings out the best in everybody.'”
It’s easy to look back at Thor now, a decade later, and know with all assurances just how fortunate Hopkins (and audiences everywhere) are that he did not, “give it up” before taking on the role of Odin. Not only did Hopkins help bolster the entire Thor franchise with the legitimacy of his Oscar-caliber presence (eventually drawing other Oscar-winning actors like Cate Blanchette into the franchise), the MCU role helped revitalize Hopkins’ entire career.
Up until Thor, Hopkins had stumbled to find success after his role as Hannibal Lecter; the actor had gone through the mid-to-late 2000s with only a few cult-hit films to his name (Fracture), and a lot more failed genre projects (Beowulf, The Wolfman, The Rite). After Thor, Hopkins hit what is arguably the best streak of his career, with prestige films like Hitchcock and The Father once again bringing him a second Oscar (for The Father). Hopkins has had the Thor films (and one Transformers movie) helping bring in the paychecks, and he’s even done great work on the small screen, in HBO’s Westworld, and HBO’s TV movie The Two Popes.
In the end, it looks like Marvel Studios hasn’t just saved legions of fans with its films – apparently, it’s even saved a fair amount of its actors.
The next Thor film, Thor: Love & Thunder will be in theaters on July 8, 2022.
